Faster Treatment for stroke patients at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is having good success treating suspected strokes with two new policies. An article in The Chatham Daily News explains:

"When the patient arrives...the doctor will perform a very quick assessment of the patient to confirm that they are having what appears to be a stroke and the patient immediately goes for their CT.

The images from the CT are then sent to a neurologist at the London Health Sciences Centre. When the patient returns to the emergency department, staff wheel a screen to the patient’s bedside for the Telestroke portion of the new practice.

The physician from London will be able to see the patient while looking through the CT images, and will recommend treatment for the patient’s stroke."
