We are very excited to announce the participation of hand, wrist and elbow surgeon Dr. Laura Kember, as well as hip and knee surgeon Dr. Herman Dhotar, in March of Dimes Canada’s Northern Medical Clinics.

Kenora, Ontario native Dr. Kember completed her first medical degree in Physiotherapy. She worked for seven years as a physiotherapist, until she returned to medical school at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Thunder Bay Campus. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Toronto and her hand and upper limb fellowship at the Hand and Upper Limb clinic in London, Ontario. Dr. Kember currently works at the Etobicoke General Hospital (William Osler Health System) where she has been employed as an orthopaedic hand and upper limb and general trauma surgeon since 2015. She will see patients suffering from conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow that may require surgery.

Dr. Dhotar completed his medical residency at the University of Toronto and two orthopaedic fellowships in adult reconstruction and muscle-sparing joint replacement surgery at the University of Toronto and Duke University. He has also completed a Masters degree in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University focusing on quality improvement and patient safety. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and has been employed at the North York General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario since 2016. He will see patients requiring hip and knee replacements and revisions, as well as knee arthroscopies.

Dr. Kember and Dr. Dhotar will join our outstanding group of medical specialists for our January 26, 2018 Orthopaedic clinic in Cochrane. The frequency of both surgeons’ visits will depend on the response to this clinic. Patients must be referred by their family physicians and all surgeries will be performed in the Toronto area. Follow-ups are generally arranged through the Northern Medical Clinics.

The Cochrane January 26, 2018 clinic will also include Dr. Markku Nousiainen - hip and knee specialist and Dr. Simon Harris – spine specialist.
