While we all know that good-quality sleep is important, new research from the University of British Columbia has found that it's especially crucial for those recovering from stroke. Jennifer Davis has been studying the relationship between stroke, sleep and depression.

“Sleep disturbances are common in older adults who have had a stroke and there is mountingevidence that stroke and sleep are  interconnected,” she says. “Because a stroke can damage thecentral nervous system, it often leads to changes in brain activity, brain function and sleep.” Her research suggests that getting a good night's sleep post-stroke is critical for optimizing rehabilitation outcomes.
