Peers Fostering Hope (PFH) and Linking Survivors with Survivors
Our hospital visitation programs help persons living with stroke, their family, friends and caregivers. The goal of the program is to enhance quality of life, alleviate feelings of isolation, and help new stroke survivors re-engage in their community post-stroke. This is achieved through efforts of trained peers who visit stroke survivors in acute care, inpatient, and outpatient rehabilitation units in local hospitals.
Peer Volunteers are persons who have had a stroke and possess experiential knowledge and optimism gained from their recovery. The programs operate in collaboration with local hospitals where the peers are jointly trained by March of Dimes Canada and the hospital's volunteer service department.
Types of Support Provided:

Peers Fostering Hope runs in hospitals across Southern Ontario. A pilot program was launched in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2018 in Surrey and Vancouver. Linking Survivors with Survivors runs in Waterloo-Wellington in Ontario.

"While in hospital, I was deeply touched by a stroke survivor who visited me. He gave me confidence and hope for recovery. This is why I volunteer with Peers Fostering Hope. I hope I can do the same for someone else." Patrick McCarthy
